Frequently Asked Questions
Why is there a no cell-phone policy at camp? This policy helps campers fully engage in camp activities, build relationships, and enjoy a technology-free environment. It also ensures the safety and security of campers and their belongings. If a cell phone or electronic device is found, parents will be contacted to pick up the device and camp directors reserve the right to send the camper home.
How can my child contact me while at camp? Campers will have access to camp phones or counselor phones to call home if needed. We frequently have campers call parents for good mornings & goodnights. We will also inform parents if their child is experiencing any challenges in their adjustment to camp. The main camp phone is answered from 7am-11pm at 330-583-2521. Matushka Catrina is also available via cell-phone for calls or text messages at 216-798-0815.
Are there any electronic devices allowed at camp? No, any iPods, tablets, or devices with video downloading capabilities are strictly prohibited at camp. These devices can store inappropriate content and distract from camp experiences. You may send a digital camera or disposable camera with your camper to capture photos.
How can I help my child prepare for a technology-free camp experience? Discuss the no cell-phone policy before camp and remind them of the importance of being fully present during their time with us. Encourage them to embrace the opportunity to make new friends and enjoy camp activities without distractions.
My child takes daily medications. Is that a problem? No just fill out the medical forms and turn them in with the meds on Sunday when you check in your camper and the nurse will make sure your child gets their meds everyday.
I am not Orthodox, can my child come to camp? We would love to have them! Although the Orthodox faith is very much involved throughout the week, St. Vladimir’s is still a summer camp for all children.
What is the ratio of campers to counselors? Our ratio of campers to counselors is 8:1 or 6:1 depending on the number of campers in a session.
My child is a picky eater. What if they don’t eat? Our kitchen staff provides a variety of selections each day. Picky campers have not been an issue in the past, we are always able to find a solution.
Is there a lifeguard on staff? Yes, we have a certified lifeguard on staff for all sessions.
How many cabins are there? There are a total of 5 cabins and 1 cook’s cabin. Campers are separated by gender and age.
If my child does not know how to swim is that a problem? No, the pool depth is from 3 ft to 8 ft deep. If your child does not want to swim they are still able to sit by the pool with their feet in the water. We also try to incorporate a number of water-related activities outside of the pool throughout the week so your child doesn’t miss out on any fun.
Can I call my child? We would prefer that you do not call your child, as they will be busy & this can encourage homesickness. If it is necessary you are able to contact the Camp Director and we can arrange for parents to speak with their children.
Can I visit? We don’t encourage visits from parents during camping sessions. In the past, we held a Parent Night in the middle of session one, however we stopped after learning it tended to leave some of the children homesick. Visitations are now on a request/approval basis.
What happens if my child gets homesick? We will try our best to help them through it. We might have them call home. Most likely by Tuesday the children are no longer homesick because they are having too much fun!
Is there a nurse on staff? Yes, we have a RN on staff for all three sessions.
